Why Do You Get Bad Breath?
Bad breath is not a new topic, we all go through it. But why do we get bad breath and how can we get rid of it? Bad breath is caused by bacteria buildup in your mouth –hence the bad smell. Most people think bad breath comes from bad oral hygiene, this is true, but there are also other factors. Bad breath can come from the food you eat, buildup of bacteria while sleeping, stress, and dehydration.
Tobacco use is a huge contributor to bad breath. The obvious recommendation is to quit, if that is not an option brush your teeth and drink lots of water!
Certain Foods: Garlic, Onions, Coffee
These foods contribute to bad breath because once your body absorbs the food, the smell is expelled through your breath. This will remain until your body processes the food
Gum, brushing your teeth, mouthwash can help minimize the smell but with food, you need to wait till it is processed through your body
When you are dehydrated, your mouth is dry due to lack of saliva. The saliva can not wash away excess food or bacteria build up which can result in bad breath
Water! Water! Water! Stay hydrated! At least 8-11 cups per day
Sugarless gum can help create saliva
Poor Dental Hygiene:
We can not stress this enough, listen to your dentist!
Floss, Brush, and go to regular dentist check ups
After eating, try rinsing your mouth with water to help cleanse
Brush your tongue, especially the back
All the food particles and bacteria in your mouth can double in growth as you sleep
Fixes for all:
Mouthwash that fights odor causing compounds
Limit caffeinated, alcoholic, sugary, and acidic drinks
